How To Maintain Your Peace of Mind – Part Two

Anxiety, stress and worry, and other related medical health conditions, now have a new name, which is known as “Covid Anxiety”. Being anxious and worrying about things that are completely out of your control, simply does not get you anywhere. You just go round and round in circles inside your head. It is a total waste of time and energy which you could be using to get something more productive done.

For example, you might sit in your armchair and worry very anxiously about whether you have got Covid-19 over and over again, for hours at a time. Or you lie wide awake in the middle of the night, at three o’clock in the morning, tossing and turning while becoming increasingly stressed about it. If you go on worrying anxiously like this, you will simply drive yourself into a state of panic. You will lose your peace of mind.

The first thing to do, is to write everything down in a daily journal. Write in this journal all your thoughts and countless worries that are making you so anxious. Get it all down on paper and out of your head. If a problem is something you have some control over, things will undoubtedly become clearer as you write, and you will see a way forward out of all the mess. Doing this will help you to keep your peace of mind. If something is completely out of your control, call for help. If you are worrying about whether you have Covid-19, call a doctor.

In this journal, create a daily plan for each day of the week, and put the time for each task, such as “walk the dog”, which is a form of daily exercise. To make things simpler, get up in the morning and retire at night at the same time every day. Have your meals at regular times, and work on everything else around that. If you are trying to lose weight, for example, make notes about what you eat, and how many calories you have consumed, and weigh yourself once a week. Make a note of your weight in the journal. If you have lost some weight, this will increase your self-confidence and well-being, and will also help you to keep your peace of mind.

Now, if you want to write about Covid-19 in your journal, keep to the main points of the latest updates. To help you keep your peace of mind, just watch a couple of television programmes about it every week. Write short yet informative notes about things like vaccines and any further relaxing of the lockdown restrictions. Being able to look back, and read what you have written, will help you to stop worrying, and keep your peace of mind.
