March is a Good Time to Revisit Your New Year’s Resolutions

This is a good time to revisit your New Year’s resolutions. Now that you have enjoyed Christmas-time and New Year’s Eve, and we are into another New Year, March is always a very good time to have a look at your list of New Year’s resolutions. It is time to look back, and ask yourself how you are doing? If you have made a few of them, looking back will help you to decide which ones have been relatively helpful to you, and which ones have not really helped you at all. If you are keeping a journal, then it would be a very good idea to read through what you have written about each of your chosen resolutions over the past 12 months, because doing this will help you to decide which ones are still worth pursuing. If you have only made one resolution, and you have not been able to stick to it, or you have not had any success with it at all, then if you want to, you can decide on a different one to work at. If you need to refocus on getting things done, get to it, NOW!

You do not have to wait until the 1st January in the next year to decide on when you want to have another go at keeping a particular resolution. You can decide on any date during the course of this year, so you could say, “I will quit smoking on the 15th March”. Keep in mind that if it is a big goal that you are aiming at, then you may need a few months to achieve it in. In this case, you would probably need to start on it just as soon as you possibly can, so you could say, “I will start on my New Year’s resolution to lose

weight tomorrow”. It might help to choose a date that means something to you, like your birthday, or the first or last day of any month, or Easter Sunday, for example. If you want to choose just one resolution from a list of five, and just concentrate on the one that you have chosen, then you can give yourself a couple of weeks to decide on your starting date.

New Year’s resolutions are easier to keep if they are the right resolutions for you. They therefore need to be “Smart”, which stands for “Specific”, “Measurable”, “Achievable”, “Realistic”, and “Time-based”. “Specific” means your resolution should be crystal clear and not vague. Therefore instead of just saying, “I want to lose weight”, you need to say, “I want to lose three kgs”. “Measurable” means that you need to say exactly how long you are giving yourself to lose the weight in, so you need to say, “I want to lose three kgs in ten months”. “Achievable” means that if you want to lose weight, it

must be a reasonable amount of weight over a reasonable length of time, and you need to say, “I want to lose three kgs in ten months”. “Realistic” is similar to “Achievable”, and it means that you need to choose a realistic amount of weight loss over a realistic length of time, and you therefore say, “I want to lose three kgs in ten months”. “Time-based” means the amount of time you give yourself in which to lose a specific amount of weight, and you say, “I want to lose three kgs in ten months”.

You can use “hypnotic affirmations” to help you to fully relax, calm down and unwind, completely and totally. They will help you greatly to achieve any resolution that you may be working towards. When you have become completely relaxed, you can then talk to yourself about how your resolution is progressing. When you use hypnotic affirmations, you need to find a comfortable place where you can sit, recline, rest, or lie down, hopefully where you know for absolute certainty that you will definitely not be disturbed. Once you have made yourself feel very comfortable, take a few deep breaths and close your eyes. Focus on positives. When you know that

you are ready to begin, repeat out loud to yourself some simple phrases such as:- “I am very calm. I am very relaxed. I am feeling very calm and very relaxed. I am feeling very positive about wanting to lose weight. My thoughts are calming down. My mind is calming down. I am feeling calm and relaxed. I am feeling at peace. I am feeling peace of mind. I am feeling a sense of comfort. I am feeling peace of mind and a sense of comfort. I am feeling calm, quiet, and at peace, and I also feel a sense of comfort in knowing that I am very slowly moving towards achieving the amount of weight that I desire to lose”. (Or whatever it is that you are aiming towards). When you have finished, slowly open your eyes, and sit very calmly just for a while, knowing that you are working steadily and successfully towards achieving your New Year’s resolution.

Mindfulness Meditation will also be very helpful when you are working on your resolutions. The first thing you do, is to make sure you are sitting very comfortably in an armchair in a quiet place. In this meditation, you focus on what you are sensing, feeling and hearing in the present moment. For example, you might choose to focus intensely on listening to something like the ticking of a clock on a shelf. So, begin by focusing on your breathing. Take a few deep breaths, and close your eyes, and simply start to focus on nothing but the ticking of the clock. When you feel really calm and relaxed, and your breathing is steady and even, concentrate only on the sound of the clock ticking. While you are meditating, you will find that all your racing and negative thoughts have slowed down. It will also calm down your mind and your body. When you are have finished, open your eyes, and you will feel calmer, and more relaxed, and you will become very aware of a sense of comfort, a sense of ease, a sense of purpose, and peace of mind. You will also know that you have spent some valuable time doing something positive towards achieving your resolutions.

Hypnosis is a safe, natural and extremely relaxing way of helping people to make big changes in their life. For example, it is a wonderful way of helping people like yourself achieve and enjoy great and amazing success with, and to keep on track with, your New Year’s resolutions whatever they may be, whether it is something like “to quit smoking” or “to lose weight”. If you go and see a hypnotist, they will slowly put you into a very relaxing and deep hypnotic state. Once you are in this state, they will then be able to address your subconscious mind and speak to it directly as though it is a very bright ten year old child. They will give it direct instructions to follow which will help you to achieve your resolutions, and when they have finished doing this, they will gently waken you back into full waking consciousness.
