What Makes A Hypnotist’s Voice Bad Or Good?, by Rosemary Barrett

I am now going to write about the different kinds of hypnotists’ voices, and I am also going to give some tips on speaking well when you are talking with or hypnotizing a person.

As the hypnotist, you need to remember that you are in charge of the client, you are boss, and you have to speak to them in such a way that they will simply follow all your instructions.  You must speak clearly, and with great clarity, and you need to use simple and straightforward words that everybody can understand.

First of all, reduce all of the “um’s”, “aah’s”, “er’s”, and “erm’s”, and all those sorts of things, because they do not mean anything, and they are basically “filler sounds”.  A client is not going to respond very well to somebody who says something like, “Now, er, go deeper, um, and now, um, go even deeper, erm, and now, er, go even deeper still”.  There has to be no breaks and no useless sounds like “errr”, between words.

Do not have any breaks between words, and do not make any useless sounds.

In English, the tonality of the voice should go “down”.  In other languages, it may be different, but if you speak in English and you make a command, the tonality goes down at the end.  For example, if you said to a client, “Now you’re going to get very comfortable”, with your tonality going down as you said “comfortable”, they are going to respond very differently if you said, “Now you’re going to get really comfortable?”.  In the latter case, you phrased it as a question, which would sound uncertain.  So make sure that you phrase “Now you’re going to get very comfortable” as  a command, where the tonality goes down.

Speak as evenly as possible, not too fast or not too slow, so that the words do not have too many long pauses, or too many short pauses between them.  They’re fairly consistent with how quickly you speak.

If you are using a complex deepener such as The Passing Through The Zero, you can, in fact, get really excited.  Always try and talk like you’re telling a story in an excited way.

For example, when you are describing the countdown from Five to the Zero, speak slightly faster and talk like you’re really excited about getting to the Zero.  If you are sounding excited when you say, “Five – Begin moving towards the Zero now … you want to get to it, and through it, as quickly as possible”, this will make them feel excited, because they will hear and feel the excitement in your voice as you are describing the process.

When you say, “Four – The anticipation is getting stronger and stronger as you get closer and closer to the Zero”, you want them to feel even more excited, because they are getting closer and closer still to the Zero.

You’re describing a feeling of anticipation, and you really need to try and talk in an excited way, simply because you are feeling anticipation.  If you are sounding excited while you are describing the anticipation, they will also feel excited, because once again they will hear the excitement in your voice and they will sense and feel the anticipation accordingly.

So, use that tonality of anticipation, or rather, excitement in this case.

Speak a little faster, in a slightly faster way of speaking, with a little more energy and have that sense of excitement and anticipation in your voice.

What is interesting, is that there is a little subset of people who, when they hear whispering, it’s not arousing, but it feels very pleasant to them.  They call it like being tickled.

There is a number of hypnosis audios out there, for example on “you tube”, when you hear people talking just like this, really softly, and they are made specifically for these people.

This pleasant state actually has a name to it, which is ASMR.  ASMR is an acronym, which is “a word formed from or based on the initial letters of other words”.  ASMR means Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.  This is a term used for “the experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine”.

There is a whole subset of people who find the whispering very pleasant, and there is a whole bunch of people who will whisper, because that is the market they are appealing to.

For these people who enjoy the whispering, it must be just awesome for them.  When they try to explain it, they say that it puts them in a very pleasant state, it is not “arousing”, it’s just very pleasant, and tingling, and it puts them in a sort of flow-like mental state, and it’s very pleasurable.  It’s a small group of people who respond like that.

There are people who didn’t know they had this, but they would also go around listening to you tube videos, and then they would find ones that they would just like to listen to over and over again, and it was usually these people who “spoke very softly and very gently, and just whispered like this, very gently”.

But understand that ASMR, Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, is not “arousing”, it is just very pleasant for these people.  It’s just uniquely very pleasant.  They enjoy hearing it, just like someone might enjoy a fragrance.

It is just, for some people, very pleasant, very soothing, and very calming.

There are many general hypnosis audios and videos out there, and  many of them are on you tube.  Some are bad, where the hypnotist has an awful, squeaky voice and sounds like a mouse squeaking, and some are very, very good.

Review of “How To Do Hand Drop Hypnosis”, by Brian David Phillips – Part 2

In this Article, I am going to describe what Dr Phillips is actually doing in a live example video, which is contained within the video that I described in Part 1.

Before you start to perform this hypnotic induction with someone, make sure that you get their consent.  You must have their agreement beforehand, and they must want to do it, or you could be accused of abuse.  This could also happen if you try to perform it out in the street.

Now we shall begin.

You have the eye engagement.  Begin to stare directly at the client’s eyes, and tell them to look straight at you.  Say something like, “look straight at me here”, pointing towards your own eyes with the index finger of your left hand.

Now put your own right hand out towards them, palm upwards, as though you are about to shake hands with them.

At the same time as you are doing this, tell them, “I want you to put your hand (pointing to the top of their right hand) on here” (pointing to the top of your upturned palm).  Your right hand will now be underneath their right hand.  When they have their hand directly on top of yours, and if they are not doing anything, if they are just sitting there and not pressing down on your hand, you will need to tell them to press.  Say to them, “Push down, down.  That’s it.  That’s right.  Push down”, and while you are saying that, you press your own hand up against their hand, and you try to get even pressure between the hands.

So you are pressing your hands evenly together, all the while looking straight at each other’s eyes.

Then you say, “Now when I say “SLEEP!”, you just let everything go and just switch everything off, whatever it is you are thinking about, or worrying about, just switch everything off, OK?”

Follow this by giving the command, “SLEEP! All the way down!  Deep.  Deep.  Keep relaxed”.  When you have said this, you put your left arm around the back of the their neck, and you have your right hand supporting their right shoulder.  Now gently rock them, moving their right arm to check that it is all floppy and relaxed.  Once their arm is relaxed, stop rocking them.  Say, “Five.  Deeper.  Deeper relaxed.  So deep.  Four.  Three.  Two.  And One”.  And as you say “One”, you suddenly but gently let go of them, and they will fall forwards in the chair, and you put your left hand gently on their back, and rest your right hand gently on their right arm.

Now move your right hand gently around their back and say, “All the way down, and you can remain relaxed.  Just relax”.  While you are saying this, gently help them to sit up in the chair again.  Their eyes are still tightly closed, because they are still deeply hypnotized.

They will then try to open their eyes, but they will not be able to.

You say, “You cannot.  Your eyes are shut.  Relax deeper”.

You now have your left hand on their right shoulder, but you have let go of their right arm.

You will then give them the following instructions.  Say, “Relax deeper.  Deeper.  Deeply relax”.

(Now put your left hand on the top of their head, with your left thumb resting in the middle of their forehead).

Say, “I’d like you to imagine, as you breathe in, that you can sense a very positive feeling, a very powerful feeling of confidence and power, a positive feeling.  Enjoy it”.

(Now point your right index finger to the top of their right hand).

Say, “And as you breathe in, let that feeling get stronger, as if you’re breathing in the power and positive energy of the universe.

And as you breathe out, all that negativity just rushes away.  That’s right, you’re doing very well.  And notice that with each breath, it feels even stronger, you feel even more confidence, even more power.  Wonderful!  That’s right.  You’re doing perfectly”.

You then tell them, “In a moment, I’m going to count from 1 to 3.  Wow.  You’re feeling wonderful.  You feel confident.  You feel full of power and energy.  You feel full of vitality.  OK.  One.  Now stretch.  Two.  And Three!  Eyes open!”.

They will then open their eyes, and they will also be smiling and looking very happy and very pleased, because they are feeling absolutely wonderful and supremely confident.

This is a very instructional video, and it shows exactly how to carry out the hand drop hypnotic induction.

If you are performing this induction for the first time in your office, display a lot of self-confidence.  They will sense your confidence, and it will show them that you know exactly what you are doing.

What I liked about this video, is that there are more live examples to watch and enjoy while learning the technique.

Review of “How To Do Hand Drop Hypnosis”, by Brian David Phillips – Part 1

I saw a video entitled, “How To Do Hand Drop Hypnosis”, instructed by Brian David Phillips, of the Ministry of Ecstatic Experiential Trance.

The purpose of the Hand Drop Hypnotic Induction is to demonstrate the complexity of the mind, and to prove that the client can be hypnotized rapidly.  This video gives you a great deal of general information and advice about the entire process, so that you gain plenty of confidence and feel extremely comfortable while you are performing it.   This is a very instructional and informative video.

Although it is very interesting, it is not really one to listen to, if you want to spend a quiet half hour or so with someone speaking to you very gently, while relaxing music is playing in the background to lull you into a really deep trance state.  This is one where you are being actively taught a technique in great detail, and where you need to keep your concentration on what you are learning.

At the very beginning, Dr Brian David Phillips introduces himself by saying that he is Dr Brian David Phillips, and he is going to teach you how to do the hand drop hypnotic induction.

It is a classic hypnotic induction, it’s really old, and it’s incredibly effective.

It is an example of what he calls “speed hypnosis”, which is used for guiding people into hypnosis very fast.

He is going to run you through the process, and show you some examples, so that you will actually understand how to do this hypnotic induction.

Speed inductions are typically four minutes long or less, but some are 30 seconds or less.  Some people like to give a long speech for this particular hypnotic induction.

You should keep it very brief, so that the person you are hypnotizing stays focused and keeps their attention fixed on the process.  If you talk too much, their minds are just going to wander off and they will come back out of hypnosis.  So you must keep it brief.  You do not need to say a lot.  You could simply say, “Push, Look (pointing to your own eyes with your index finger), Sleep!”.  Three words.  BOOM!.  Some hypnotists use ten words, some use eight, and others use five.

There are five main components to The Hand Drop Hypnotic Induction.

Consent: You should tell the person that you intend to hypnotize them, and make sure that they agree to it.  They have to want to do it.  Tell them what to expect and what should happen.

The Hand Press: The Hand Drop Hypnotic Induction includes use of the hands.  The person puts their hand upon the upturned palm of your hand, and presses down on it, so you have one hand pressing down upon another.  This is know as “The Hand Press”.

Eye Contact: You then have the “eye contact”, which is where you stare directly into the person’s eyes, and you might also want to use the “hypnotic stare”.

Sleep Command: Once you have gained eye contact with the person, you quickly drop your hand away and immediately give the command, “SLEEP!”.  Hypnosis is not about “sleep”.  Nobody is going to be sleeping.  You want to have them in “hypnosis”, not in “sleep”.  Hypnotists are expected to say it, so we say it.  It is so much easier to say than something like, “Go into hypnosis now, please”.

Deepen: When you have given the “Sleep!” command, and they have responded to it, you need to do what’s called “deepen”.  You need to “deepen” their hypnotic experience.  You go straight into one or more of your “deepeners”.

He then goes on to advertise his hypnosis practice for a while, and shows quite a few live videos demonstrating the hand drop hypnotic induction.  He talks you through these videos, giving a great deal of general advice and information on what is taking place in each one, and on what you should and should not be doing when you are performing this hypnotic induction.  He rounds off by saying that you are welcome to check out his website, or take one of his courses, or attend one of his hypnosis training seminars.

This is not a very good hypnotic induction for street hypnosis, because if you tried it with a complete stranger in the street, they could say that you had physically abused them.  The person that you intend to hypnotize really needs to want to do it with you.  It is really for doing in a hypnotist’s office, with the person being hypnotized sitting in a very comfortable position in an armchair.

Review of “Hypnosis to Quit Smoking Mindfully”, by Kim Carmen Walsh

I saw a video instructed by Kim Carmen Walsh, entitled, “Hypnosis to Quit Smoking Mindfully”.  This is part of a series entitled, “Hypnotherapy and Meditations”.

The first part consists of progressive relaxation.

Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and begin to slowly relax and unwind.  Focus on your breathing, and as you breathe slowly in and slowly out, you will feel a sense of calm with every breath.  Listen to the gentle music in the background and let your mind drift off.  If any thoughts enter your mind, acknowledge them and let them pass by.  Now begin to relax every part of your body, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, simply by following the many instructions given.  You will gradually go deeper and deeper, and become more and more relaxed.  These instructions continue for quite a while.

There is now some counting.

She instructs that in a moment she is going to count backwards from three down to one, and when she says the word “relax”, you will double your relaxation.

She counts.  “Three … Two … One … relax”.

Now that you are completely relaxed, imagine a spiral staircase.

Notice the way it goes down and round and round.

Imagine yourself standing at the top of the staircase.

She instructs that in a moment she is going to count backwards from ten down to one, and with each count you feel yourself going deeper and deeper as you go slowly and carefully down each step.

She begins to count again, but very slowly.

“Ten … relax even deeper … Nine … Eight … Seven … your mind and body drift into deeper relaxation … Six … Five … Four … Three … Two … One …  so completely relaxed”.

Now when you get to the bottom of the staircase, you find yourself in a very special room.  This is your special room.

You are feeling calm and peaceful, happy and serene.  You hear distant sounds echoing from happy memories.  Look around your special room, noticing what it looks like.  Notice the colours … the lights.  You see a very comfortable sofa, and walk over to it.

Now lie down easily and comfortably on this luxurious sofa, feeling deeply relaxed, so at ease, so calm, and so peaceful.

As you lie there so comfortably, notice the atmosphere in the room beginning to change.

The light in the room becomes crystal clear white.

The air about you is filled with millions of tiny white air particles of clean, pure and vital energy.

Take a very deep breath, and notice how clean and fresh this pure energy feels as you breathe it in.

As you continue breathing it in, you can sense a change in your awareness.

From this moment on, you know that you are a non-smoker.

Say to yourself in your mind, “I am a non-smoker”.

See yourself continuing to breathe in this pure, clean and vital air.

Notice how good you feel, now that you have stopped smoking for good.  Be aware that you are now a non-smoker.  Your skin becomes clear and bright.  The pure, fresh oxygen that your body needs is now flowing freely and strongly through your entire body.  This pure, fresh oxygen is now bringing you more energy, and you feel bright and invigorated.  You look and feel better than you have  ever looked and felt before.  Your mind is now clear and bright.  You are feeling energized by the fact that from this moment on, you are a non-smoker.  You are now calm and confident and in control, and as your self-confidence continues to grow, you can now make decisions which you know are right for you, for your health, and your happiness.

It is now time to bring the session to an end.  She instructs that in a moment she is going to count upwards from one to five, and when she gets to five, you will come up and out of hypnosis, bringing with you all the benefits, and feeling relaxed, calm, confident, and in control.  “One … Two … Three … Four … beginning to move and stretch … and Five … eyes open, wide awake, and feeling good”.  You are now a non-smoker.

This is a video designed to help the listener to quit smoking for good.

They are told many times that they are a non-smoker, and that they will remain a non-smoker, because being a non-smoker makes them feel good, relaxed, calm, confident and in control.

It will be of benefit if you listen regularly, because this will continue to increase your self-confidence and your determination to remain a non-smoker for good.

Review of “Hypnosis: How To Change Your Life In One Week”, by Exploration Of Humanity

I saw a video instructed by Exploration Of Humanity, entitled, “How To Change Your Life In One Week”.  At the very beginning of this video, you are thanked for listening.  This session is designed to help you become the person that you want to be, and over time there will be an improvement in your motivation, your confidence, and your abilities.  You need to listen to this video every day.  Listen to it in the privacy of your own home, and at a time when you will not be disturbed.  Do not listen to it while driving a car, or while operating machinery.

The first part is devoted to progressive physical relaxation.

You are told to sit back, relax, close your eyes, and make yourself comfortable.  Relax and do not worry about anything.  Just breathe in and breathe out and don’t worry about anything at all.  Let your muscles completely relax, and let the relaxation flow right through you.  Let the relaxation flow, starting from the top of your head down to your eyes, and from your eyes let this relaxation flow down your cheeks and down to your neck, and around to the back of your neck and down to your shoulders.  There now follow many detailed instructions of where to feel the relaxation as it flows right through your body, starting from the very top of your head and flowing right down to the bottom of your feet.

There is now a counting session.

You are told to go into a deeper and more relaxed state, while he counts from 10 right down to 1.

He begins to count, very slowly.

10 … now going deeper … and deeper … and deeper.  And 9 … going down … down … down.  And 8 … going deeper and deeper … and more relaxed.  And 7 … going deeper … and deeper … and deeper.  And 6 … going down … down … down.  And 5 … going deeper … and much more relaxed.  And 4 … going deeper and deeper.  And 3 … And 2 … And 1.  Repetition is important.

Throughout the counting, you just keep going deeper and deeper.

You are told to feel the relaxation.

You are told to enjoy the relaxation so much, that you feel like an astronaut floating in the air.

And now, while  you are thoroughly enjoying every moment of this deep and wonderful relaxation, you are then told to imagine that you are now in an elevator.

This is your journey and you can decide what the elevator looks like.

The door is closed, and you press the Down button.

As the elevator starts going down, he begins to count again, very slowly.

And 3.  And 2.  And 1.  Repetition is important.

Throughout the counting, you just keep going deeper and deeper, only this time you keep going even deeper than before … and even deeper … and even deeper still.

When he gets to 1, the elevator has now stopped and the door is open.  You are told to step out of it, and now you find yourself in a field.  It is a warm, comfortable summer night and you can hear the crickets chirping and a warm wind blowing.

You know you are alone, but you are safe and you are comfortable.  You go off and explore this field.  You walk though the field, and you feel so good, so relaxed, and so at ease.  You find a clearing in the field and you lie down in the clearing, gazing up at all the stars.  It is a clear night, and you can see thousands and thousands of stars up in the sky.

You have never seen so many stars, far too many to count.  And as you focus your attention on the beauty of the stars, you understand that the limitless number of stars also means the limitless number of possibilities.  This is your life.  You are limitless.  You can do what you want.  Take a moment and think about what is good and what is important in your life, and about what you want in your life.

You are limitless.

Think about what you want in the future, like a new relationship, better health, better finances, or a new car.  It can be anything.  Many similar instructions follow.  He says that obstacles are just obstacles, and they can be overcome.

He then says that you can do anything.  And then you are told to imagine somebody who has succeeded, and think about their qualities and their success.  You are told to imagine you are that person for a moment.

You can have this.  You can do this.  And then you come back to yourself in your own mind, bringing the feeling of success with you.  You can have whatever you want.  You are told that you have the strength to succeed, including affirmations of succeeding like, “You are limitless.  You can succeed.  You can do what you want.  You can have what you want.  You are limitless.  You can succeed.  You will succeed”.  This part goes on for quite some time, with the same affirmations being repeated over and over again.  He also says, that the more you think like that, the more positive and resourceful you will become.  The unlimited abilities in your mind will find ways to solve any problems.  You will move forward.  You will succeed.

He finishes off the video by saying, “I will leave you now.  Good day.  Awaken when you wish”.

And towards the end of the video there is some relaxing music played, during which you gently awaken in your own time.

The benefits of this video include building self-esteem, increasing confidence, strengthening your will to succeed, and strengthening your determination to change your life.

It would have a benefit if you listen to it every day, because you would focus on building your confidence and focus more on your success.

Review of “Getting Someone To Forget Their Own Name”, by Mike Mandel

I saw a video instructed by Mike Mandel on the “Getting Someone To Forget Their Own Name” hypnotic induction.

The purpose of this hypnotic induction is to demonstrate the complexity of the mind, and to prove that the client can be hypnotized deeply enough so that they can truly forget their own name.

This is a very instructional video.  There was sufficient verbal instruction in this video for someone to be able to perform this hypnotic induction on a client, either in a hypnotist’s office, or when performing hypnosis on the street and on the stage.

Hi. I’m Mike Mandel from mikemandelhypnosis.com, and I’m going to show you a really cool thing today, and a couple of ways of producing a very interesting hypnotic phenomenon which is name amnesia.

Name amnesia is startling if you do it in street hypnosis or on the stage, and if you do it in therapeutic practice, it’s a great convincer to show your subject they were indeed in a phenomenally deep hypnotic state because … think about it … what is more personal to you than your own name, and if you’re standing there going, “you can’t remember your name”, something has definitely happened.  It’s a remarkable phenomenon to create and, whether you’re one of our students in The Hypnosis Academy, you already know how to get people in a deep trance, or whether you’re a person who’s approaching this for the first time, you’re going to need to have the person in a sufficiently deep trance to make this work.  At this point, there is an advertisement for his hypnosis practice.

When you create what is known as an “amnestic loop”, you are denying the subject the ability to gain access to a particular part of their experience.  Now, memory is stored in a protein molecule in your brain, “protein kinase c”, but that doesn’t matter to you.  What matters is, how can you wipe it out at least temporarily, and it only will be temporary no matter what you do.

Now there’s two different ways I have caused that name amnesia for the last 40 years, and I’ve done this hundreds, if not thousands, of times, and I’ll tell you two methods that absolutely work.

The first method is direct suggestion.  You get someone in a somnambulistic trance and again, my students know how.  If you don’t know how, check it out.  Once they’re in that somnambulistic trance, by necessity you have them at the point that you can cause them to forget their name, and I like to use a bit of shock to make this happen.

So, I’ll be talking to the person.  I’ve already had them in and out of trance a number of times, and they can even be ostensibly wide awake now in front of an audience.  I just jump at it.   I tap them on the forehead and say, “What’s your name?, you can’t remember” just like that, really congruently.  I get right in their face, I’m not yelling at them but I say, “What’s your name?”.  I tap them on the forehead and say, “you can’t remember”, and I maintain eye contact with them, and I shove the microphone I’m using, if I’m on stage, in their face … don’t hit him in the teeth … and let them go “uh – huh”, and they won’t have it, it’ll be gone.

You’re creating something called a PGO shock and they’ll forget it for a couple of seconds.

Your job now is to make sure they still forget it after that couple of seconds, and here’s how.

This is my innovation.  When they start to look around, they’re doing a trans-derivational search, they can’t remember their name.  You immediately, I mean two, three or four seconds after you’ve done this, shove the microphone back in their face and say, “take your time”.

When you do that and look at them congruently with a blank expression, it puts them around the loop again and they look everywhere except where their name actually is, phenomenal, and then you can bring it back through whatever means you want.  So directly shocking them, “what’s your name?, you can’t remember, take your time”, is powerful.  Use it.  It works.  In the street, this will be phenomenal.  On stage, it is amazing for the audience.  Now like I said, you can use it therapeutically in a therapeutic setting if you’re a hypnotherapist, to amaze your subject, and that will build your credibility like you can’t imagine.

But there’s another way, too.

The second method of causing someone to forget their name is much more subtle, and it’s really freaky, and I’ve used this once since 1975.  It gets a great audience result.  They’ll be amazed at what you’re doing.  First of all, instead of coming at this with a direct suggestion, I boot up the circuitry in their mind.  I boot up the psychodynamic process of forgetting by talking about forgetting.  Now this is a very interesting thing.  Forgetting is active.  Not remembering is passive.  They’re not quite the same, but in any case, here’s how you approach it.  I’ll say to the person something like, (I’m pretending I’ve got a microphone in my hand), “you ever have one of those times that you’re somewhere in a big parking lot with a bunch of friends.

You park your car, could be somewhere like Disney World, and then you come out and nobody’s paid attention and you can’t remember where you parked your car.  Now notice I’m putting in an embedded command.  I’m pointing and saying, “and you can’t remember”.  I’m looking at them and saying, “where you parked your car?”.  This is a universal experience, we’ve all had this, so they go, “yeah, I’ve done that”.  I say, “me too.  Forgetting is a normal part of life”.

And then I’ll say, “or have you ever had one of those times, (again imagine a microphone here so you get the timing), “you ever had one of those times where you put your keys down or your wallet down, and you go, “what did I do with that?  I just set that down a minute ago”, and you can’t remember where you put your keys?”.  The person goes, “yeah, I’ve done that”.  “Me too.  Forgetting is a normal part of life, right?  You agree?”, and they’re agreeing.

And then I’ll come in a third time and do something similar.  “You meet someone on the street you haven’t seen in years, and you know them, and you know you know them, but you can’t remember who they are.  Have you had that happen?”.  “Yes, yeah”.  “You can’t even remember their name, it’s so weird?”.  “Yes”.  Forgetting is a normal part of life.  Now I’ve reinforced the whole thing of “forgetting is normal” about two or three times.  Now there’s a little bit of a pause and I’ll suddenly say, “by the way, “what was your name?”.  I put the microphone in their face.  My face is blank and I look at them.  Now here’s what’s happening.  When I say, “”what was your name?”, I put it in the past tense.  In other words, not “what is  your name?”, but “what was your name?”.  It now disappears and the person will do the trans-derivational search with their eyes (they’ll try to get the information unsuccessfully and I’ll do the same thing as I did in the first example.  “Take your time”.  I shove the microphone in their face, they’re in front of an audience, they’re under lights, they’re in shock, and the name is completely gone.

So, the two methods are:- Direct suggestion, “what’s your name? you can’t remember”, stick the microphone in their face after which you of course then say, “take your time”, and the second way boots up the circuitry by talking about forgetting, and getting them to agree with you that there are many times they have forgotten things and you’re reinforcing that that is a totally normal thing, and then you don’t even tell them to forget it.  You just say, “by the way, what was your name?”, and watch what happens.  Astounding.

Mike Mandel finishes off the video by advertising his free tutorial about how power inductions work.  This tutorial can be found on his website.

Review of “Super-Somnambulist Hypnosis Training Hypnosis Session Number 5 – How To Forget Your Own Name”, by Dantalion Jones

I listened to a CD instructed by Dantalion Jones on the “How To Forget Your Own Name” hypnosis process, which is part of a series of CDs entitled, “Super-Somnambulist Hypnosis Training”.

The Super Somnambulist Hypnosis Training

The purpose of this series of hypnosis processes is to demonstrate the complexity of the mind, and to prove that the client can be hypnotized.

Earlier in the program, the listener is instructed how to enter into hypnosis.

Now I am speaking to the subconscious mind … the deeper mind … you are the one who is in charge … you are the one in complete control … you are the one in control of thought … in control of feeling … in control of memory …

Starting now … and for fifteen minutes upon awakening … there is no memory of the past … no understanding of the present … there is no thought of who you are … you will know that you are safe … and have no thought or memory of who you are …

This will be confusing … and you will still know you are safe in this room … and for those fifteen minutes … no matter how hard you try in vain to remember who you are … or what you are doing …

there will be nothing … no memory … no knowledge … no remembering at all … this will last for fifteen minutes upon awakening … nod your head now … as you completely accept and understand this instruction  … go deeper … feeling even better … and deeper still …. feeling even better still … going deeper … and deeper … and deeper …

At this point, the listener is given instructions to waken them from their somnambulistic state to full waking consciousness.

It is a program in which the listener is trained in hypnotic phenomena, with the ultimate conclusion of being able to forget one’s name and identity for fifteen minutes.

There is a strong emphasis on safety during this final demonstration of amnesia.

Review of “The Dave Elman Induction”, by Mike Mandel

I saw a video instructed by Dr. Mike Mandel on “The Dave Elman Induction”.

The purpose of the video is to give you a demonstration of how to carry out this induction with great ease and confidence.

I’m Dr. Mike Mandel, and today we’re going to be talking about hypnosis.

I’m going to be demonstrating The Dave Elman Induction, the one he’s most famous for, and the reason I’m putting this out there is there’s so many horrendous versions of it, and there really are no versions of The Dave Elman Induction, you either do it correctly or incorrectly.

So I’m going to show you the best way to do this, where you can produce a somnambulistic trance very, very rapidly with the subject, even if they’ve never experienced somnambulism before.  This is not an instant induction.  Although I do teach those, this is a rapid induction.  It’s a very quick way to get to where you need to be in trance.

So here’s how The Dave Elman Induction works.

This is Andrea, (he quickly points towards Andrea who is sitting on a chair), and she’s volunteered to be a subject.  We have not planned anything in the sense of what you’re seeing is actually as it happens.

So, let us begin.

Andrea, can you imagine making a fist (he quickly makes a fist with his hand) so tight that you couldn’t possibly squeeze it any tighter?.  (Andrea says yeah).  Sure, I mean it’s obvious, I mean anybody can imagine that, right? (Andrea nods).  So can you imagine the opposite, relaxing your hands so uch that as long as you hold on to that relaxation it just won’t work?.  (Andrea nods again).  Why not?  That’s the kind of relaxation, the quality of relaxation I want you to get with this induction.

In a moment, I’m going to ask you to relax the tiny muscles around your eyes (he runs both index fingers quickly around his eyes) as you hold on to that relaxation, they just won’t work.  Now any time you want, you could open your eyes, but I’d rather you hold on to the relaxation and stay in control by keeping them closed.  So you’ll boil your eyebrows up and down, and give them a good test, and you’ll discover that it feels kind of interesting, but as long as you keep those muscles relaxed (he runs both index fingers quickly around his eyes again), your eyes just won’t work.

So, close your eyes (she closes her eyes as he quickly passes his hand downwards in front of her face) …

Now relax those tiny muscles around your eyes absolutely … completely … and give them a really good test … put your eyebrows up and down,  see, okay … good … that’s perfect … so stop testing … keep your eyes shut … and let a huge wave of relaxation go from the top of your head … right down to the soles of your feet … and in a moment … I’m going to ask you to open your eyes … and I’ll pass my hand in front of your eyes … and when I do, I would like you to close your eyes immediately … following my hand down … and double your relaxation … just go twice as relaxed instantly … so you can open your eyes (she opens her eyes as he quickly passes his hand upwards in front of her face) … and double that relaxation as you follow the hand down (she closes her eyes as he quickly passes his hand downwards in front of her face) … that’s right … make it happen … want it to happen and it will happen … I can’t do it for you … eyes open (she opens her eyes) … and closed again (she closes her eyes) … double it … again … just permit yourself to wrap yourself in a warm blanket of relaxation and sink way down … and open … and close again … double the relaxation … make it happen … want it to happen … and it will happen … that’s right … and open (she opens her eyes) … and close again … (she closes her eyes) … that’s right … and continue to go deeper … doubling the relaxation every time … and open (she opens her eyes) … and close (she closes her eyes) … and sink way down … relaxed … open (she opens her eyes) … and close (she closes her eyes) …  way … way … down … .

Now, this is fractionation.  I’ve done it six times, which is all you really need.  After this, The Law of Diminishing returns, and kicks in, and you won’t get much more relaxation than this.

So Andrea, in a moment … I’m going to pick your right hand up by the thumb, just a few inches, to test your relaxation.  Let me do all the lifting.  Don’t help me at all, and when I drop your hand, it’ll fall just like a wet dishcloth.  So I’m going to pick it up now … (he picks up her right hand by the thumb and moves it about for a couple of seconds) … that’s it … and perfect relaxation … let another wave of relaxation go through your entire body.

Well, this is physical relaxation, but there’s also another side to this, which is mental relaxation and in a moment … I’m going to ask you to begin counting backwards out loud from 100 like this.  100, deeper relaxed, and I want you to let those numbers just fade out of your mind … then you’d say 99, deeper relaxed, and as you count … the numbers will fade or just drop out of your mind … so after saying just a few numbers, there won’t be any left to say … they’ll all be totally gone.

So you can mentally relax by counting backwards from 100 now … she starts counting as instructed … and now just drop the numbers out of your mind … she continues counting … all gone? … OK … banish the numbers … push them out of your mind … wipe the slate clean … that’s right … just push the numbers out … all gone? … she nods … excellent … so don’t even concern yourself about the numbers … just continue to go deeper and deeper … and really enjoy that trance state …

So now we have a somnambulistic trance.  We know, because we have number block, and once we have number block like this, we have the working state of hypnosis where we can create just about anything we need.

Now, if I touch the back of her neck now … (he leans forward and puts his left hand round the back of her neck) … it’ll feel like ball bearings the way her head is on her neck … and that’s one of the great tests for somnambulism … that kind of total physical relaxation plus the mental relaxation that is indicated by the numbers disappearing out of her mind.

So this is how you get to somnambulism nice and fast … it’ll only take you a few minutes.

A few caveats:-

If your person is counting down … and down … and down … and the numbers aren’t going … pick up their finger or their thumb again and say … this time when I drop it … the numbers will drop out of your mind … and drop it down firmly … and then you say … all gone? … and they’ll say yes … you want to say are they gone? or you want to say all gone? … you don’t want to say … are the numbers still there, because if you say that, you’ll bring the numbers back again … so ask if they’re gone.

And sometimes the person will get aphasia as Elman pointed out … they just won’t say anything, that the numbers aren’t gone … it’s just too much trouble to say it … their mind is slowing down … they’re going into a deep trance … so instead, you have to get a response when you say … are the numbers all gone? … get them to either nod or say yes, or something, and then you will know that it’s not aphasia, but the numbers are wiped out, and the person is in a somnambulistic state.

And Andrea, you can come back to the surface only when you realize you’ve learned even more about hypnosis … now …

He waits while Andrea takes a minute to so to wake up.  She wakens fully, and smiles.

Hi … excellent … The Elman Induction.

Review of “What Is A Confusion Pattern”, by Dantalion Jones

Hello.  This is Dantalion Jones.  Today, I’m going to discuss what is described as “Confusion Patterns”.

A confusion pattern is a sentence that puts the listener into a momentary state of confusion where they become susceptible to your influence.

I want to thank those people on the Mind Control 101 discussion group for suggesting this topic.  If you want to join this group, I’ll tell you more at the end of this video, and I’ve also provided a link below this video.

Now, at the end of this video, you’ll be asked to click the “like” button because it’s informative … it’s entertaining (mostly) … and because I asked you.  You’re likely to get a few laughs from this one, so remember to share it with your friends, too.

The goal of this video is to show what a confusion pattern is, describe what it does, and give you a few ways to create some of your own.  If you have some you want to share, post them in the comments section below.

First, let’s talk about why confusion patterns are useful.

Whenever the mind is in a state of confusion, it searches desperately for something that makes sense.  So, when you are able to put someone into a momentary state of confusion, then tell them something that makes sense or give them a direction that they can understand, they’ll latch onto it in order to release themselves from that state of confusion.

What you can do as you’re listening to these confusion patterns, is simply notice what they do to your mind.  That will likely be one of the best lessons you will get from this video.

With some people, you will literally see them freeze, just for a moment.  This is when they are trying very hard to make sense of what you just said.

Thus, when you use a confusion pattern, make sure you follow it immediately with something that makes sense, and they will latch on to it like a lifeline.  This could be a simple instruction like:-

“Close your eyes”, or … “you’re safe.  Stay right here”.

I’ll start with what I call the 30 second hypnosis induction.  I mentioned this in my book, “Mind Control Language Patterns”.

This is a very useful phrase to say just before doing a regular hypnosis induction, because it puts the mind into a very confused and receptive state.  I’ll say it, and then go through the dissection of the sentence:-

Here it is:- “I want you to go ahead and remember back to yesterday … when you knew … that tomorrow … you’d be in a trance … right now”.

This is confusing to the listener because it messes with their ability to perceive time.  It is not entirely clear at what point in time they are to mentally be placing themselves.  So, at the same time, they’re in yesterday’s memory … looking forward to tomorrow … which is today … and, in fact, being in a trance … right now.  When I use this pattern, I immediately follow it with something like, “you feel good.  Close your eyes.  Pay attention to my words”.  I would then immediately go into a traditional hypnotic induction.

Here is another confusion pattern that was given to me by my co-trainer, Jeff Stephens:-

“I often wonder what things will be like when we were there?”.

And here is another one that Jeff Stephens introduced me to:-

“So, what have you guys been doing for the next two hours?”.

I’d like now, to give you a very simple instruction on how to build a confusion pattern.  You may not be able to construct them on the fly.  The process is relatively simple, and you could probably create a few just by sitting down with a paper and pencil.

The confusion patterns that you just heard all have something in common.  Namely, that all the parts of each sentence make complete sense, but when they are brought together in one sentence there is no context in which you can understand them.

Let’s take the very simple and short sentence that I’ve mentioned:-

“I often wonder what things will be like when we were there?”.

The first part of the sentence, “I often wonder what things will be like”, is simple and understandable enough.  Likewise, the second half of the sentence, “when we were there”, also makes sense.  It’s when you combine them in a single sentence they create confusion.  So, with that very simple distinction, we can start to make our own confusion patterns.  Here are a few that I’ve made up that fit this particular format:-

“What will it be like to have the memories you remembered you had lost?”.

Here’s another one:-

“How many times did I tell you to do that once?”.

You can also create confusion by playing with the tenses of verbs:-

“I don’t remember how we will be after we’ve been there”.

Or …

“Yesterday was a good time to begin now”.

Or …

“Will you remember looking forward to that moment right now, that you forgot?”.

I hope this is enough for you to make some of your own confusion patterns.  If you have some, post them in the comments below or send them to me.  And by all means, use them on people, and see what kind of reaction you get.

I mentioned that I would tell you how to join the Mind Control 101 discussion group.  It’s pretty simple.  Go to yahoo.com, and in the search bar type, “mind control 101 group”, and it will be the first link that pops up.  The link is also provided for you below, in the description of this video.

What can you anticipate in the next mind control video?  Lots of good stuff.  If there is a topic that you’d like to cover, then post it in a comment, or send me an email.  I intend to cover some very interesting topics in the weeks to come.

You can start looking forward to them, right now.

If you have any questions, or want to learn more about language patterns, there is a link you will find below this video.

Remember to “like” this video now, and to share it with your friends, because like I said, it’s informative … it’s entertaining (mostly) … and because I asked you to.

Review of “Confidence With Hypnotic Inductions”, by Dantalion Jones

I saw a video instructed by Dantalion Jones on “Confidence With Hypnotic Inductions”.

The purpose of this video is to give you some general information and advice on how to gain confidence when you are performing hypnotic inductions.

At the beginning, Dantalion introduced himself personally.  He explained that he is recording this for his Advanced Hypnosis Skills facebook group, and he is also recording it for the University of Hypnotism, which you will find on the you tube channel.

I am doing this in response to a comment that was made on the group, by a fellow called Gordon.  Gordon said that his specific question was about having confidence when doing a hypnotic induction.  He said that although he was extremely good at doing covert and conversational hypnosis, when it came to someone physically coming up to him and saying, “Hypnotize me”, in other words saying they were wanting a hypnotic induction, he felt that he was being challenged.  What he said was, that he wanted to feel confident about his choice of words when doing the actual induction, and to seem like a well-versed and successful hypnotist in the eyes of the subject, and to be able to draw forth respect from the subject regarding following the hypnotic instructions.

First and foremost, if Gordon is really good at covert hypnosis like he said he was, then he has my thumbs up, because covert hypnosis is really challenging.  Learning covert hypnosis can be like learning a whole new language, unlike direct hypnosis which is pretty straightforward, and it’s pretty simple.

One of the reasons that most people are challenged with doing direct hypnosis, is because it’s a situation where someone says, “Hypnotize me”, and you’re actually put in a situation where you may fail, but you and the other person will realize that he didn’t get hypnotized, and that, for a lot of people, is a major challenge.  What I want to do, is tell you first of all, to “accept the challenge”.  Set your mind to it, and really decide that, if someone says, “Hypnotize me”, make it your intent to hypnotize them.  Go ahead and do just that.  When you’re able to do that, just put all of your attention on that person.

Now, there are some things that I can give you, and Gordon, some information and advice that will make this very easy.  First and foremost, learn your hypnotic inductions.  Memorize a few of them, and three things you can do is practise, and practise, and practise.  And when I say practise, I mean stand in front of a mirror, speak out loud, and imagine that someone is there that you’re hypnotizing, and imagine them responding to it.  So, you start to train yourself to do this, and understand what it’s like to really start to get comfortable giving these commands.  Do it out loud, preferably in front of a mirror, and pretend, imagine, there’s someone there you’re hypnotizing.

At this point, Dantalion held up a manual of his direct hypnosis teachings.  This is the book that I use when I’m doing workshops.  Now you can get this book, you can get it on Amazon, but it’s way too expensive there.  However, if you go to my website, mindcontrolpublishing.com, you can get it at a discount.

It is the one book that I use when I’m teaching it one-to-one, and it also has quite a few inductions in there, along with the normal process, the ten step process of hypnosis that we use, so I recommend it.

You can just as easily go into you tube and type in “hypnotic inductions”, and you’ll find a couple of hundred of them.  What I recommend is that you find one, just get one and memorize it, practise it, and then practise it, and practise it.  You’ll get your confidence up that way”.

One of the things that I think is really important to understand is that, when you’re doing direct hypnosis, and someone asks you to “Hypnotize me”, I’m going to first assume that they’re not challenging you, they’re not saying, “I bet you can’t hypnotize me”.  Instead they’re saying, “I want this really amazing and interesting experience”.  That’s great.

I will tell you how to respond when someone challenges you with, “I bet you can’t hypnotize me”.  So if someone comes up and says, “I want you to hypnotize me and  let me be your subject”, think of it this way.  You’re not going to give hypnotic suggestions.  Don’t ever give hypnotic suggestions.  Instead, give instructions.  The whole idea of a suggestion implies that they don’t have to do it, but an instruction implies that if they follow the instruction, they get the result.  When you think of it and actually present it as, “OK, follow my instructions”, what happens is, the responsibility goes on them.  If nothing happens, if you’ve done the induction correctly, and they’re saying, “it didn’t work”, it’s because they didn’t follow it.

So the first thing you do, let’s assume you have memorized your induction.  If someone comes up and says, “Hey, I’d love to be your hypnosis subject”, you say, “look me straight in the eye”.  You say, “OK, all you have to do is follow my instructions, agreed?”.  And notice that I’m raising my eyebrows up and down, and nodding my head as I’m saying, “agreed?”.  And you wait for them to say, “OK”.

At that point you start to give them just simple directions.  This is not part of the hypnosis process.  It is part of them getting comfortable hearing and following instructions.  So you say, “OK.  Stand over here.  Sit down.  Put your feet together”.  You don’t tell them why you’re doing it, you’re just giving them direct instructions so that they get comfortable following your instructions.  Once that happens, then you go into the induction.

Now, I have a very good induction I use all the time.  It’s perfect.  It never fails me because I am practised at it.  It’s a very familiar induction.  I will give it to you.  If you get the workbook that I use in my seminars, you’ll find that it is in there, but it goes basically like this.

In fact, before I do it, if you want to follow along with me, just follow my instructions and notice your response.  OK?.

You’ll see them raising their eyebrows up and down, and when you see that, you say …

SLEEP! (Click your fingers) …

OK, now if you’re following along, if you’re in hypnosis, and if you enjoyed the process, you can always go back to this video and get the rest of it, or you can just keep going deeper and enjoying what you’re experiencing right here.

The point is, that’s as simple as it needs to be.  As long as they’re following your instructions, and you’re giving them as instructions, not so much as commands but as instructions, they’ll follow along.

Now what happens if someone comes up to you and they say, “I bet you can’t hypnotize me?”  Now I kick that off.  I say, “I’m a hypnotist.  I’m going to hypnotize you”.  It’s the usual young man I’m not going to do too much work with, and they think that they’re strong-willed, and they have a misconception of hypnosis.  So they say, “I bet you can’t hypnotize me”.  Well, I always just turn it back on them.  I say, “well, you know, you may be right, because there are people that I know who aren’t able to follow instructions.  Either because they don’t want to, or they simply don’t have the ability to follow instructions.  I’ll tell you what, let’s try something and let’s determine whether you are one of those people”.  I just turned it around, and I made the challenge now on them.  It’s up to them to prove that they have an attention span and can follow instructions.

When someone does come up to you and says, “Can you hypnotize me?”, it’s always a good idea to ask them, “what do you want to experience?”.  For some people, they just want the experience of being hypnotized.  That’s understandable.  They just want to get this feeling.  Maybe you could take their hand and lift up their hand, like this, (Dantalion held up one of his hands with his other hand), and have them look at it as though it’s completely separate from their body.  And they have that experience of dissociation and that’s really something that they respond to very well.  So just take their hand and lift it up, have them open their eyes and look at it.  And then say, “as much as you try … you cannot move it … no matter how hard you try … it just stays right there”.Now go on from there, do your research on the various other hypnotic phenomena and let them have, most of all, let them have a very positive experience as you do this.

Now with the instruction that I give in this book and at the workshops and the seminars, there’s a whole Ten Step Process.  It’s a really good process.  I love it.  I teach it.  I’m sort of just married to it.  But understand, that as long as you can do the induction, as long as you can get them in that state, you will get some really good results.

So I do hope that this has answered some of your questions regarding building your confidence.  I know that my mentor, Jeff Stephens, spent a lot of time talking about the whole idea of “intent”.  An intent is when you have determined that what is going to happen, is going to happen, and as a hypnotist you have “set your intent” that “this person is going to be hypnotized”.  So regardless of what happens, and regardless of how they respond, whether it’s really positively, or if it’s challenging, it doesn’t faze you.  You’re simply going to keep doing it and doing it, and doing something different, until they respond exactly the way you want.  That is the strength of your intent.  So I hope this has answered your questions.

If you do have any other questions, go to the facebook group, Advanced Hypnosis Skills, and join.  Type your question in there.  You can also go to the you tube channel, the University of Hypnotism, and I’ll be happy to respond there as well.

Thank you very much.  I’m really looking forward to getting your responses.  Take care.  Goodbye.
