The Ten Steps of Hypnosis Process – Step 9, The Magic Mirror

Today, you will be reading about the ninth step of The Ten Steps of Hypnosis Process.

Step 9, The Magic Mirror

This is a process which gives your client the three things that everyone goes to a hypnotist for, which are:- “To feel good”, “To feel well”, and “To feel happy”.  It satisfies all of these three things, because it brings about an agreement, or at least a limited agreement, between their conscious and subconscious minds.

(1) “To feel good”, means having a general sense of feeling that everything is OK, and that life is good for the client.  (2) “To feel well”, means having a general physical sense of well-being, which the client might want to achieve by quitting smoking, losing weight, being rid of specific pain, or having less anxiety and stress, or anything that will cause them to feel physically better.  It is a sense of feeling physically well.  (3) “To be happy”, means being happy, because the changes the hypnotist has made for the client, will leave them feeling happy for having been there.

You have just finished The Golden Box, and you have asked for its agreement to make the required changes.   Wait for the nod.

(1) When the client has nodded, say … “Good … now (client’s name) …”

The whole of The Golden Box was done in a dissociated state.  The  conscious mind was dismissed, and The Golden Box was addressed to their subconscious mind.  Now, with this one short line, you have re-associated their conscious mind into the process.

(2) You now immediately dissociate the conscious mind again, by saying … “That person you see when you “look in the mirror” … that person is a person of worth … that person is a good person … that is a person who loves and is loved … a person who cares for others and is cared for … that person you see when you “look in the mirror” … is a person of worth …”.  (Having re-associated the client a minute ago, this part forces a complete dissociation by referring to “that person”.  The phrase “look in the mirror” is given as a command, and it is an instruction you are giving them to follow, where you instruct them to apply positive qualities to the dissociated image in the mirror.  The phrase “a person of worth” is used because almost everyone has the desire to be considered worthy).

(3) Now re-associate them by telling them that they know that this is true … “And you know that this is true … because you are that person … you are a person of worth … a good person …”.  (Now fill in all the other things you said before, making sure to use phrases like, “you are a person …”, in order to get them to fully associate with the positive qualities).

(4) Now that you have re-associated the client by using the associated language, and associated all their good qualities back to them, you will now dissociate them again, by giving them the instruction to “look in the mirror”, and apply the positive qualities to the image in the mirror … “Now (client’s name) … That person you see when you “look in the mirror” … that person is a person of worth … a good person … “.  (You do not need to go through the whole of the list the second time, but only use two or three of the most important qualities, and always finish off with … “is a person of worth”).

(5) Now, again re-associate them again in exactly the same way you did the first time, using the shorter list … “And you know that this is true … because you are that person … you are a person of worth … a good person …”, in order to once again get them to fully associate with the positive qualities, as before.

(6) Finally, you get agreement from the client’s subconscious mind by saying … “Nod your head if you accept and understand this …”.  This must occur straight after the second re-association to the qualities, so that the client is mentally accepting that these things are true.

When the hypnotist has completed the instructions for The Magic Mirror, he can then move straight on to the tenth step, which is “The Exduction”, or “The Wake Up”.
