Ideas To Stop You Smoking

Today, you will be reading about some easy ways to help you to quit smoking for good.

Tell your family and friends that you have given up smoking. Then if for example they are in the car with you, they will know not to smoke. And when you are at your workplace, tell the people who work with you that you no longer smoke. Find fellow non-smokers to enjoy your work breaks with, or do something else like go for a walk.

Try to avoid triggers that tempt people to smoke. Drinking alcohol will often do this, so drink inside places where smoking is prohibited or stick to non-alcoholic drinks. When you have had a meal, instead of lighting up a cigarette out of habit, eat something healthy like some fresh fruit such as an apple.

Find distraction techniques to help you when you feel the urge to smoke. Keep yourself busy by doing things. Wash the dishes, watch television, or have a long conversation with someone on the telephone. Go for a walk outside, which will also burn calories and help to keep your weight down.

The Mysterious Illness Surrounding Vapour Cigarettes

Don’t Use E Cigarettes

Today, you will be reading about the mysterious illness caused by vaping.

Six more people have recently died in the United States from a mysterious illness that has been linked to smoking vapour cigarettes. Doctors have been describing it as a “serious lung injury”. At least 450 suspected cases have also been linked to the use of vapour cigarettes, and the numbers are rising every day. The people who are sent to hospital suffering from this illness are mostly young and healthy. The known symptoms start with fever and nausea, and worsen to coughing, chest pain, and shortness of breath. All these people had recently used vapour cigarettes which contained either weed or nicotine, or both together.

Most cases of this illness connected to using vapour cigarettes are due to chemical contaminants, or poisonous agents in the vape liquids. The human lungs were not built to breathe in anything apart from clean air, and anything else such as using vapour cigarettes carries a potential health risk. Some of the cases have been linked to THC-containing products. Testing of products have shown “vitamin E acetate” in weed products which the people had used and as a result had become sick. This oil could be causing lung inflammation, but apparently not everyone who became sick had reported using such products. Other people were only using the nicotine-containing vape product. Currently, there is no guaranteed safe form of vaping.

You are therefore advised to not buy vaping products off the street from a vendor, and do not use products that have been tampered with. There are no inspections of shops that sell vapour cigarettes, so you cannot tell if such a cigarette or the liquid is from a reputable place. And also, because vapour cigarettes are relatively recent phenomena, the health risks from using them are not understood very well. The more scientists are studying them, the less safe they seem to be. Investigations have not, as yet, identified the source of the lung disorder.

Therefore, if you are using vapour cigarettes, you should stop completely. The only real solution is to stop smoking, and using vapour cigarettes, altogether. Keep to medications like gum, lozenges, patches and nasal sprays, because they are known to be medically safe. You can also try natural and safe solutions to stop smoking, such as hypnosis, which has been shown to be extremely effective at stopping smoking.

The Odd/Even – Open/Close Induction

Today, you will be reading about The “Odd/Even – Open/Close Induction”.

This is a rapid induction.  Rapid inductions, rather than progressive relaxation, stop the subject from going to sleep, and they allow for testing.  In this induction, the hypnotist will know that the subject is following their instructions, when the subject can no longer open their eyes.

The “Odd/Even – Open/Close” Induction is a very simple induction that can be carried out almost anywhere, at any time.  It is very similar to part of The “Eye Lock” Induction.  This induction can take as long as a minute and a half, although it often works in 30 to 45 seconds.

While maintaining eye engagement with the subject, say the following

“Now … in a moment … I will begin counting … when I say an odd number, close your eyes … and when I say an even number, open your eyes … with each odd number, I say … close your eyes … with each even number, I say … open your eyes …”

Wait just a moment, then begin counting.

“One … (wait for eyes to close) … two … (wait for eyes to open) … three (wait for eyes to close) … four (wait for eyes to open) …”

The time between numbers should be relatively short.  However, wait just a little longer after the odd numbers than you do after the even numbers, so that the eyes are closed longer than they are open. 

Let the time with the eyes closed get slightly longer each time.

“Five … that’s right … six … seven … and when your eyes want to stay closed … eight … nine … you can just let them … that’s right … ten … eleven … good … thirteen … fourteen … fifteen … seventeen …”

From this point on, randomly leave out some of the numbers.  Occasionally repeat the part, “… and when your eyes want to stay closed … you can just let them …”. 

When you notice that the eyes are no longer opening on the even numbers, say a couple more odd numbers in a row.  Then reach up, and gently tap the top or back of the subject’s head and say … “SLEEP! … deeper … deeper … deeper …”.

Begin deepeners (intensifiers) immediately.

The “Eye Lock” Hypnotic Induction

Today, you will be reading about The “Eye Lock” Hypnotic Induction.

The “Eye Lock” is a rapid induction.  Rapid inductions, rather than progressive relaxation, stop the subject from going to sleep, and they allow for testing.

The words that are actually spoken by the hypnotist are instructions that are to be followed, and not “hypnotic suggestions”.  As they are instructions, it is the subject’s responsibility to implicitly follow and obey them.

The Eye Lock comes after the slow deep breath and before the simple deepeners.  It is used so that the hypnotist can instruct the subject to close their eyes, and they can see that the subject is following their instructions, when they close their eyes.  When the hypnotist instructs the subject to test it, the hypnotist will see them trying unsuccessfully to open their eyes again.  When the subject cannot do so, the hypnotist will then know that they are in complete control of the subject, and the subject will keep their eyes closed throughout the hypnosis session.

“Close your eyes …

and for this moment … for right now …

focus your attention on your eyes and eyelids …

focus all of your attention on your eyes and eyelids …

focus totally on your eyes and eyelids …

and for this moment … for right now …

just pretend … imagine … just suppose …

that you have taped your eyelids shut … and sealed them together … and they’re locked down …

they are taped … so securely sealed … so tightly locked together … and sealed so securely …

that you know …

that no matter how hard you try …

they’re simply going to stay closed …

So make that true …

and when you have …

prove it to yourself … test it …

and then stop testing …

and then go even further …

go even deeper …

and focus even more enjoyably …

that’s what deeper means …

So the deeper you go …

the better you feel …

and the better you feel …

the deeper you go …

So just keep going deeper and deeper …

feeling better and better …

just … like … that …”

The “Magnetic Hands” Hypnotic Induction

Today, you will be reading about the “Magnetic Hands” hypnotic induction.

The Magnetic Hands is often used as a suggestibility test for determining how open and responsive a subject will be.

First, have the subject hold his arms straight out in front of him with his hands about 12 to 14 inches apart.

Reach up and adjust the hands – no matter where he places them.  This will draw his attention to the hands almost completely because of the contact.

Hold your hand between his two hands with your index finger pointing directly at the subject’s face.  Tell the subject to focus all his attention on the tip of your finger.  This narrows his focus even further. 

If you just tell him to focus on the space between his hands, it will still work.  Take every opportunity to intensify focus.

The idea is to bring the individual’s focus to as small a point as possible.

So once he is staring at your fingertip, tell him to close his eyes, but keep focusing on that “spot” where the fingertip is.  Once the eyes are closed you can remove your hand, but continue to refer to “that spot” and say the following:-

“Keep focusing on that spot … and begin to imagine that there are magnets on the palms of your hands …”

At this point reach up and just lightly touch the palms of each hand as you mention the magnets.

“Imagine that these are electromagnets … and I am turning on the power … NOW!  (Snap your fingers as you say “NOW!”.) … and that the power is turning up and up … and the higher the power goes … the more your hands are being pulled together … closer and closer …”

“Now imagine that there is also a rubber band wrapped around your hands pulling them closer and closer … and the magnets are being turned up higher and higher … pulling your hands closer and closer … and another rubber band is being added … pulling your hands closer and closer …”

That should only take a few seconds.  If you do not see the hands moving towards each other, keep referring to the magnets being turned up stronger and stronger, and more and more rubber bands being added.  Once you do see the hands moving towards each other, say the following:-

“… And you know, that the moment those hands touch … you will drop into a deep, profound state of hypnosis … a deep, deep state of hypnosis … the moment those two hands touch …”

Now go back to the “turning the magnets up, making them pull harder and harder, pulling the hands closer and closer”.  And add more and more (imaginary) rubber bands pulling the hands closer and closer.

 When the hands are about 2 to 4 inches apart, move your hands just outside of his hands and suddenly push them together and downwards as you say “SLEEP! … deeper … deeper … deeper …”

Begin deepeners (intensifiers) immediately.

The 8-Word Induction

Today, you will be reading about the “8-Word” hypnotic induction.

The 8-Word Induction is fast and effective, and I have rarely had it fail.  When it has failed, it was because the other person was a hypnotist who was attempting to analyse what I was doing and I didn’t catch it until after it failed.

Sit or stand facing the subject.  Hold your hand directly in front of the other person, fingers together, palm up, and flat.

Say …

“Press on my hand …”

He will place his hand palm down on yours (usually), and begin to press down.  Return the pressure slightly harder until he begins to respond by pressing harder*. 

Bring your other hand in front of the other person’s face, about 6 – 10 inches away from his face.  As you bring your hand down in front of his eyes, say …

“Close your eyes …”

Wait 1 to 1.5 seconds until you can sense he is engaged in the process, (i.e. The look on his face will let you know that he is focused on his hand pressing down.  Most likely, he will be “looking” at the hand with his eyes closed).  Quickly drop your hand in a downward motion and say …

“SLEEP! … deeper … deeper … deeper …”

Use a firm voice – with the full expectation that he will indeed follow the instruction – and get ready to catch him very quickly.  He may fall forward.

Start your deepeners immediately.

Here are the primary points to remember throughout this induction:-

One, you must expect it to work.  Intent is the single greatest cause of failure with inductions.

Second, when you speak, DON’T ASK.  Tell.  Say the words with the total expectation that the subject will do exactly what you say.

By changing the timing, I have had this work on one subject, waited a moment, and used the exact same induction on someone else who had watched the first one.

*NOTE:- You may need to tell him to “press down” if the subject just rests his hand on yours.  Some people WILL simply lay their hands on yours, not fully understanding what you expect of them.

The “Stiff Arm” Hypnotic Induction

Today, you will be reading about the “Stiff Arm” hypnotic induction.

Say to the subject:-

“Hold your arm straight out, like this …”

Demonstrate by holding your own arm straight out, palm down.

“Good … now make a fist … make it tight … really tight … tighter …”

Tap the fist each time you say the word tight to associate the tap with the word tight.  You may need to repeat the “tighter …” several times.  You are looking for “white knuckles”.

“Good … now just imagine that this arm is made of stone … with a steel rod right through the middle of it … imagine it is solid stone with a steel rod right through the middle …”

As you are saying this, tap the arm in several places, or move your hand up and down the arm.

“Just imagine … just pretend … this arm is so hard … so solid … that EVEN if I try … I can’t bend it …” (repeat this)

Try to bend the arm.

“Good … now imagine … just pretend … that this arm is so solid that even if YOU try … you can’t bend it … that’s right … when YOU KNOW that this arm is so solid that even if YOU try … you can’t bend it … give it a try and PROVE that it won’t bend …” (repeat from “just pretend …”)

Wait and let him try for a few seconds.  Then take hold of the arm by the wrist. 

Then I usually tap the arm as I say the following:-

“Good! … now stop trying and just let it go … let all the tension in the arm go … and just close your eyes now … that’s right …”

At this point you can either drop the arm and say “SLEEP! … deeper … deeper … deeper” … or you can move to the “Eye Lock”.

I often move to the “Eye Lock” and keep holding the arm.  After I say “sleep!” and he goes into hypnosis from the “Eye Lock”, I use the following arm drop as a deepener.

“Now … in a moment I am going to drop this arm … when I do you can just let it fall to your lap just as quickly as you want to go … all the way down … because you know … the moment this hand touches your lap … you will go all … the way … down …”  Drop the arm just as you are saying “down” that last time.

The “Modified Butterfly Fingers” Hypnotic Induction

Today, you will be reading about The “Modified Butterfly Fingers” Hypnotic Induction.

The original version of this induction is an arm-pull induction.  I do not do arm-pull inductions, because I do not consider them safe, and you will need to make this decision for yourself.

This induction has been modified to have no arm-pull.

Have the subject sitting in front of you, with him sitting down, and you standing up.  Reach over and take hold of one of his arms by the wrist.  If you are right-handed, take hold of the subject’s right arm with your left hand.  Lift the arm and begin to move it around a bit.

“Now … just let me have this arm … let me hold all the weight … good …”.

Hold your other hand in front of the subject’s face, with all the fingertips pointing towards the subject’s eyes.  Hold your hand out flat, with the palm down, and the fingers slightly spread.

“Now … focus on my fingertips … focus entirely on my fingertips …”.

Begin slowly moving your hand around in front of the subject’s face.

“Follow them with your eyes … and with your head … (repeat if necessary) …”.

Continue moving your hand around in a random pattern, starting with smaller movements, and getting larger and larger with your movements.  Continue doing this for several seconds – approximately 5 to 10 seconds.

Then suddenly begin wiggling your fingers as you continue moving the hand around.  This should last for just a couple of seconds.  While still wiggling the fingers, move your hand down to a position 8 inches or so below eye level while rolling the hand to be palm up.  

At the point where your hand is completely palm up, snap your hand shut, into a fist, and sharply say “SLEEP!”.  Begin your deepeners immediately.

Note: If you are following this, you will notice that you are still holding the subject’s arm.  I use this arm to perform a deepener.  Immediately after I say the standard “deeper … deeper … deeper …”, I gently swing the arm just an inch or so each way to draw attention to it.  Then I say …

“Now … in a moment … I am going to drop this arm … when I do … just let it fall to your lap just as quickly as you want to go … all the way down … because you know … the moment this hand touches your lap … you will go all … the way … down …”.

Drop the arm just as you are saying “down” that last time.

The “Wrist Lift” Hypnotic Induction

Today, you will be reading about “The Wrist Lift” hypnotic induction.

This is based on an induction which I have seen a hypnotist do on a video, and I like it because it is very simple and straightforward.

Begin with the subject seated, with their hands in their lap.

“I am going to lift one of your hands by the wrist …”

Lift either of their hands by the wrist. 

“Is that all right? …”

(He will, of course, say “yes”, since you have already done it).

“Don’t help me … let me hold it up …”

Hold it there for a few seconds.

“Now … just pick a spot right here …”

Point to a spot on the hand that he can easily see and focus on.

“Focus on that spot … focus all your attention on that spot … do not look away for any reason …”

Begin to slowly move the hand several inches towards the face … then slowly begin to move it away.

Pay close attention to notice when you can let it go and have it just stay there (this is known as catalepsy).  Release the arm, and let it hang there for just a second.  Reach up and wave your hand down in front of the subject’s eyes.

“Now just close your eyes … SLEEP! … deeper … deeper … deeper …”

(The hand will probably still be hanging there.  If it is, the following is a great way to use this as a deepener).

“Now … in a moment … I am going to touch the back of this hand … when I do … you can just let it fall to your lap … just as quickly as you want it to go … all the way down … because you know … the moment this hand touches your lap … you will go … all … the … way … down”.

Tap the back of the hand just as you are saying “down” that last time.
